Understanding Baby Poop Colors
A guide to what's normal and when to be concerned
Yellow - Normal
Yellow, mustard-colored stool is normal for breastfed babies. It\'s usually seedy or curdy in texture.
Brown - Normal
Brown stool is normal for formula-fed babies and older babies eating solid foods.
Green - Normal
Green stool can be normal, often caused by iron in formula or rapid digestion.
Black - Consult Doctor
Black stool is normal for newborns (meconium) in the first few days. After that, contact your doctor.
Red - Call Doctor Now
Red stool or blood in stool requires immediate medical attention.
White - Call Doctor Now
White, pale, or clay-colored stool indicates liver or gallbladder problems - call doctor immediately.
